“Should most of our ministers have been new in government without being MPs, then I would agree we are overspending on them as ministers. These ministers we are talking about, most of them are already MPs. Mr. Kojo Opong Nkrumah reiterated.
According to him, close to 70 ministers who serve as ministers at the same time as MPs work without salary.
Revealing further, he indicated that he himself who doubles as an MP of Ofoase-Ayiribe in the Eastern Region does not take salary as a minister.
Kojo Opong Nkrumah again stressed that ministers serving as MPs in any way do not receive any form of allowance or benefit from government hence they do not pose any financial burden on the government.
“Even though some persons may say the government is spending a huge amount of money on its 110 ministers, but that is not it. Myself I serve as an MP and the same as a minister, however, I have never received any salary for the position as a minister. I do not take anything like house, cars, and others”. He told Kumasi based Hello Fm’s morning show host King Edward the Slave.
Mr. Nkrumah’s comments came as a response to claims by some critics that the huge number of ministers in the Nana Addo led government is causing much spending at the expense of the taxpayer.
