The Ghana Premier League winner for 2021 is likely to get automatic qualification to the next level of the CAF Champions league following the ban placement on the Moroccan Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) Casablanca by FIFA.
WAC was slapped with a transfer ban by FIFA which was later upheld by the court of Arbitration for sport (CAS) for failing to pay a Nigerian international, Chisom Elvis Chikatara a sum of $187,250.83 before 31st December 2020.
Solicitors for the player, activity Chambers and signed by the Head of Sports law (Africa), Johny Precious Ogbah to the Head of Clug licensing Department of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation on July 29th, 2021, The FIFA Dispute resolution chamber ruled in favor of the client in march 2019 and also awarded a cost of $165,167 against the club.
"This was supposed to be paid by the Club in 30 days. The decision further stated that in the event theta the aforementioned amounts are not paid by the Respondent within the stated period, an interest rate of 5% per annum will fall due as the expiry date," it explained.
However, a separate letter signed by Johnny Precious Ogbah to the President of the Accra Hearts of Oak dated September 20, 2021, indicated that WAC were not legible to participate in the ongoing CAF champions League after failing to meet a CAF deadline on August 15, 2021 in connection with the overdue payment.
"We write to inform you that your opponent, WAC in the next round of the CAF Champions League 2021/2022 is not eligible to participate in the tournament"
