Family of technician who suffocated in fuel reservoir pledges to cooperate with police probe

The family of the late Michael Ashie, one of the three people who tragically lost their lives after suffocating while servicing a faulty fuel reservoir at the COCOBOD office in Koforidua, says they are fully cooperating with the Ghana Police Service, who have begun their investigation into the unfortunate incident.

Michael Ashie, together with Jonathan Kokroko and Paul Ocloo, all technical experts contracted by the management of the PBC workshop to service a faulty fuel reservoir at the Koforidua COCOBOD Office, allegedly suffocated while working in the facility on Monday, October 9.

Health professionals at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua Effiduase, who confirmed the deaths of the three after their bodies were extricated from the underground tank and sent to the hospital, are also collaborating with the police and will soon furnish them with the autopsy report.

Ishmael Kotey Ashie, the son of the deceased Michael Ashie, described the incident as shocking to the family, which they are gradually recovering from.

“It was shocking news, but all the same, we have to embrace whatever news has come, and we are standing strong. I am trying to keep my mother and my sister together,” he said.

Meanwhile, the management of COCOBOD in the Eastern Region is still waiting for confirmation from the national headquarters before briefing the media on the incident.
