Supacem donates 1000 bags of cement to Citi TV/Citi FM’s relief campaign

CBI Ghana Limited – producers of Supacem cement – has donated 1000 bags of cement to Citi TV/Citi FM’s #Relief4LowerVolta campaign for Akosombo Dam spillage flood victims.

The donation according to the company is to help construct a resettlement centre for displaced persons.

The donation was made on behalf of Supacem by its Head of Sales, Mr. Kojo Arthur, to the management of Citi TV/Citi FM on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Mr Arthur was accompanied by Marie-Antoine Cuttoli – Logistics Manager.

Mr. Arthur said that Supacem was committed to supporting the people of Ghana in times of need. He noted that the Akosombo Dam spillage had caused a lot of damage and hardship to the people of the Lower Volta area and that Supacem was happy to help in any way it could.

Supacem also added a cash amount of GH¢20,000 to help pay the artisans who will work on the project.

“We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the Akosombo Dam spillage,” Mr. Arthur said, adding “We hope that our donation will help to bring some relief to the affected communities.”

Managing Director of Citi FM and Citi TV, Samuel Attah-Mensah, thanked Supacem for its generous donation.

He said that the donation would go a long way in helping build a resettlement centre for the flood victims to rebuild their lives.

The #Relief4LowerVolta campaign is a Citi TV/Citi FM-led initiative to raise funds and relief items for the people affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

The campaign has helped distribute relief items to thousands of people in the affected communities.

Meanwhile, Citi FM/Citi TV is embarking on the next phase of support for the affected persons with its “OperationRebuild” project, which seeks to put up facilities to help resettle people displaced by the dam spillage.

Starting with the Torkpo community in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region, the first resettlement centre will be sited at a school in the area so that it can be converted into a classroom after the emergency has passed.

Once the Torkpo structure is completed, two other areas will also benefit from the same project.

Each structure will be a dormitory-style building that can accommodate at least 200 people and will come with ancillary facilities such as washrooms.

Mr Samuel Attah-Mensah announced the “OperationRebuild” initiative on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

“The objective is to identify new locations and resettle the people,” Mr. Attah-Mensah said.

“If you hear the accounts of the people affected by the spillage, they are in settlement camps, and they use canoes to check up on their homes. Mind you, the waters are not receding any time soon. So we need resettlement facilities for them like yesterday.”
